For fantastic value for money bush cooking, pick up a Bedourie from Dr.Livingstone’s.
This high-quality steel Bedourie is a lighter option compared to a cast iron camp oven, cooks the same, and is just as easy to use. You can make so many dishes in here including stews, roasts and stir-fries. This Bedourie is also available in two different sizes so you can get the right one for your cooking needs.
Just season it before you go, and the Dr.Livingstone’s Bedourie will be ready to cook up some delicious meals over your campfire.
Hi, what is the outside of the embossed lid, doesn't it make it harder to use as a fry pan? Do you sell one without embossing?
G'day Jim,
The embossed lid design has been around for a few years, and even though it's one of our best-selling ovens, we've had no negative feedback on the lid & nothing to suggest it's an issue.
You could take a look at the Southern Metal Spinners as an alternative option, or may be able to pick up a vintage bedourie with a flat lid, second hand.
Can you use a Bedourie on an OzPig
G'day Karen,
Theoretically, you could use the Bedourie on top of the Ozpig. It's not something we've tried ourselves, but I can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't work for you.
What is the diameter of the pot itself? At the bottom and at the handles?
G'day Ido,
I have measured both sizes for you as I wasn't sure which size you were looking at. The 10" has an internal diameter of 23.5cm, the 12" has an internal diameter of 29.5cm. They are the same diameter all the way up.
What are the diameters of the lids on both 10” and 12” models. I’d like to use it as a fry pan on my Coleman PowerPack Single Burner. It can accept pots and pans with a base diameter of up 29cm.
G'day Brom,
The diameter measurements for both sizes are 28.3cm and 34.3cm respectively.
G'day, could you give me the internal depth sizes of the base and lid please? And I've also read that the lid is not balanced correctly, could you check this for me too? Thanks
G'day Jamie,
I've just measured the depth of both the lid and the main oven on the Dr Livingstnoe's Bedourie. The main oven was about 120mm deep, whilst the lid was about 50mm deep. As for the unbalanced lid. This isn't something I've heard of and looking at our display models, I think they balance pretty well.
Can this item be used on a small portable INDUCTION cook top? Requirements are that a magnet must stick to it, which it won't on most stainless steel. Recommended to have 2 mm thickness of base. Hard to tell how thick the metal is on the Bedourie - it may be too light! Have one of your cast iron frypans.
G'day George,
Unfortunately, the Dr.Livingstone's Bedourie isn't suitable for use on an induction cooktop, best bet would be to stick with the cast iron.
Do you sell trivets for 10" & 12" bedourie camp ovens if so could supply prices for each.
G'day Mark,
The Large Hillbilly Camp Oven Steel Trivet fit nicely in the 10" but there wasn't one that was quite big enough for the 12".
As above
G'day Mark,
For the
Hello, Can the 10" Bedourie fit inside the 12" southern metal spinners camp oven? Thanks.
G'day Jason,
I've just given this a whirl for you and the 10" Dr Livingstone's Bedourie does fit inside the 12" Southern Metal Spinners Camp Oven.
Can this be used on a gas stove such as the Coleman Fyreknight? Thanks!
G'day Jon,
I wasn't entirely sure about this one so I checked with one of my more esteemed cook colleagues. They told me that you should have no issues using a Dr Livingstone's Bedourie on your Coleman Fyreknight Stove.
Hi guys! Wondering if the lid can be used as a fry pan? And if the handles can be flipped 180 (degrees) to lift the lid 'upside down' so to speak? Otherwise, what would you recommend to hold the lid if using as a fry pan? Thank!
G'day Rae,
Absolutely, you can use the Bedourie lid as a frypan. It's one of its great hidden features - just be sure to season it like you would with the pot. The triangles on the side can be flipped so that you can get your handle hooked in.
Can the 10" fit inside the 12" one?
G'day Jason,
You can nest the 10" Bedourie inside the 12" Bedourie.
My daughter has just bought a 12" Bedourie and would like to know how to cure it before use
G'day Peta,
The process is relatively simple and very much the same for both Steel (Bedourie) and Cast Iron.
A teammate of mine, Dave, has written a really helpful blog on how to go about doing it which you can find here.
What size suitable trivet should be used with these oven? Thanks In advance
Hi Romy,
Depending on which size Bedourie Oven you are considering, you will need a trivet to fit either a 26cm diameter or 31cm diameter oven. The biggest trivet we have is the large Hilbilly Trivet, which is suitable for the large Bedourie oven, whilst the medium suits the smaller model. The 9Qt Campfire Camp Oven Trivet would be a tight fit for the small Bedourie, but I don't have one here at the moment to check for you sorry.
Thanks for the prompt reply, it will be the 10' oven. How much of a gap will there be with the smaller suggested trivet ?
Hi Romy,
I've just compared the dimensions, and as the 10" Bedourie oven is 26 ⌀ and the 9 Qrt Campfire Camp Oven Trivet is 25 ⌀ - so there will be a 1cm gap.
**Update 10/06/2022 - We've physically tried this out instore, and the 9qt trivet does fit the 10" Bedourie oven. Its a tight fit, and whilst it drops in easily, you will need to tip the oven to get the trivet out.
Does this actually weigh 6kg?
G'day Brent,
Well spotted! It looks like we've got some incorrect information on our site there. The smaller option weighs around the 2.8kg mark and the larger option is about 3.8kg. Sorry about that, I'll get the info on the website fixed asap!
